Divemaster

The SSI Divemaster program is the first step into the professional side of scuba diving and is ideal for experienced divers who want to develop their skills, knowledge, and leadership abilities.

As an SSI Divemaster, you will learn how to supervise certified divers, assist SSI Professionals during training, manage dive activities, and help create safe and enjoyable diving experiences.

Course Prerequisites

To start Divemaster Training you must;

be at least 18 years old
be fit to swim
have a minimum 40 logged dives (totaling 25 hours dive time),
have the following SSI certifications or equivalent certifications from another agency;
- SSI Advanced Open Water,
- SSI Diver Stress & Rescue certification
have the following SSI certifications, or equivalent from a recognized training agency, or proof of experience showing at least five (5) logged experience dives in each of the following areas:
- SSI Deep Diving (to 30 metres depth or more)
- SSI Navigation
- SSI Night & Limited Visibility

Course Details

The course combines academic learning with extensive practical experience in the water. You will develop your understanding of dive planning, equipment, risk management, diver safety, environmental awareness, and group supervision while gaining valuable experience working alongside experienced dive professionals.
Particular attention is given to communication, organisation, problem-solving, and developing the confidence needed to take responsibility for other divers.

The Science of Diving

Develop a practical understanding of the science behind scuba diving, including physics, physiology, decompression, equipment, and the aquatic environment. The course explains how these factors affect your body and diving, helping you make better-informed decisions and understand the principles behind safe diving practices.

Dive Guide

Learn the practical skills needed to plan, brief, and lead recreational dives for certified divers. The course covers site evaluation, dive planning, group management, dive briefings, navigation, and supervising divers in different conditions, with practical training focused on leading safe and well-organised dives.

Amount of Academic Sessions : 5

Academic Sessions are available as Digital Learning and can be studied by the student before attending the course at the dive centre.

Amount Confined Water Sessions : 4

Amount of Open Water Sessions : 5

Maximum Training Depth : 40 m / 130 ft

Certification Prerequisites:

Fit to swim
Minimum 40 logged dives (totaling 25 hours dive time)
Advanced Open Water Diver Certification
Diver Stress and Rescue Certification
React Right or other first aid certification completed within previous 24 months

The Path To Professional Diving
